Dianthus Flutter Burst

Dianthus 'Flutter Burst' is a compact, free-flowering perennial known for its vibrant, bicolour flowers in shades of bright pink with a contrasting pale centre and frilled edges. Flowering from late spring through summer, the scented flowers rise above neat mounds of grey-green foliage, attracting bees and butterflies. Growing to around 25 to 30 cm high and wide, it is ideal for cottage, rock, border, and container garden styles.

Plant in full sun with free-draining soil. Drought-tolerant once established and well suited to hot, dry sites. Space plants 20 to 30 cm apart for edging or mass planting. Deadhead regularly to encourage continued flowering. A low-maintenance, fragrant perennial that adds vivid colour and soft texture to sunny garden spaces.

Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering flush to maintain a neat, compact form and encourage repeat flowering. In late autumn, cut back spent growth to tidy the plant before winter.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to promote continuous flowering and prevent self-seeding.

Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser. For prolonged flowering, apply a light liquid feed monthly during the growing season.

Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Dianthus ‘Flutter Burst’ is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during dry periods. Avoid overwatering and ensure soil is well-drained.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids and thrips on flower stems-treat early with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed. Slugs may also target young plants.

Disease Management: Ensure good airflow to prevent fungal issues like rust or leaf spot. Avoid overhead watering, and remove any diseased or yellowing foliage promptly. Plant in free-draining soil to minimise the risk of root rot.
