Crocosmia Lucifer
Notify MeCrocosmia Lucifer is a perennial known for its tall arching spikes of bright-red, trumpet-shaped flowers that flower in summer and provide a bold architectural element in the garden. The leaves are long and strap-like and the plant can grow up to 1.2m tall. It prefers well-drained soils and full sun. It is hardy and deciduous. It is often used in garden borders, naturalised settings or as a cut flower.
Trimming: Trim back foliage to ground level in late autumn once it has naturally died back.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower stems to maintain a tidy appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to encourage flowering and robust growth.
Watering: Provide water during extended dry spells, especially during flowering, but avoid waterlogging.
Pest Control: Be vigilant for slugs and snails that can damage young shoots; use deterrents as needed.
