Canna Tropical Rose

Canna indica Tropical Rose is a compact, clump-forming perennial with lush green foliage and soft rose-pink flowers from late spring through to early autumn. Its tidy size and bright colouring make it well suited to borders, subtropical gardens, and container planting.

Plant in full sun with rich, moist, free-draining soil. Water regularly during dry periods and apply fertiliser through the growing season for best flowering. Protect from heavy frost or lift rhizomes in cooler areas. Space plants 40 to 50 centimetres apart to allow for mature spread.

Grows to around 60 to 80 centimetres tall and 40 to 50 centimetres wide.

Trimming: Remove spent flower stems to encourage continued flowering. At the end of the season, once foliage has died back, cut stems down to just above ground level. Tidy up during the growing season by removing yellowing or damaged leaves.

Deadheading: Regularly take off faded flowers to promote fresh flowering and maintain a neat appearance.

Fertilising: Apply a slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Supplement with a liquid feed every four to six weeks during active growth to support strong flowering and lush foliage.

Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during establishment and in dry weather. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, but ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging.

Pest Control: Look out for aphids and caterpillars on new growth. Remove by hand or use insecticidal soap if infestations develop.

Disease Management: Be aware of canna rust and bacterial blight. Watch for orange spots or blackened leaf edges. Remove affected foliage and dispose of it. Provide good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
