Canna Cannova Yellow
Notify MeCanna indica Cannova Yellow is a compact, fast-growing perennial with green foliage and bright yellow flowers from late spring through to early autumn. Its tidy form and long flowering season make it well suited to borders, subtropical gardens, and large pots or planters.
Plant in full sun with rich, moist, free-draining soil. Keep well watered during dry periods and feed regularly through the growing season. In cooler regions, protect from frost or lift rhizomes over winter. Space plants 40 to 50 centimetres apart for best results. Cut back in late autumn or early winter once flowering is finished.
Reaches approximately 90 centimetres tall and 45 centimetres wide.
Trimming: Cut back spent flower stems to promote continued flowering. At the end of the season, once foliage has died down, trim stems to just above ground level. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves during the growing season to keep the plant tidy.
Deadheading: Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage fresh ones and maintain a clean appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Supplement with a liquid feed every four to six weeks during active growth for best flowering performance.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist while the plant establishes and during dry periods. Avoid waterlogging, but do not allow the soil to dry out completely.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids and caterpillars on new growth. Remove by hand or use insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease Management: Be alert for signs of canna rust and bacterial blight, such as orange spots or blackened leaf edges. Remove and dispose of affected leaves. Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
