Calibrachoa Holy Cow

Calibrachoa 'Holy Cow' is a trailing, perennial variety celebrated for its striking bicolour flowers. Each flower features magenta-pink petals boldly edged with white and a prominent yellow throat, creating a vibrant, speckled effect across the plant. Flowering from spring through to autumn, it forms a low, spreading mound around 20 to 30 cm high and trailing 40 to 60 cm wide, making it perfect for hanging baskets, containers, and the front of sunny borders in cottage or contemporary garden styles.

Plant in full sun with free-draining soil or quality potting mix. Space plants 30 to 40 cm apart to allow for trailing growth. Water regularly and feed fortnightly during the growing season to support continuous flowering. Light trimming helps maintain a compact shape. In cooler regions, it may need winter protection. A standout perennial for adding bright, cheerful colour to warm, sunny spaces.

Trimming: Lightly trim back by one-third in mid to late summer if the plant becomes leggy, to encourage bushier growth and continued flowering. Pinch out early growth tips in young plants to promote a compact form.

Deadheading: Not required, as Calibrachoa is self-cleaning. However, a light tidy-up of faded flowers can enhance appearance if desired.

Fertilising: Feed regularly with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser every 2 - 3 weeks during the growing season to support continuous flowering. In containers, use a slow-release fertiliser at planting time as a base feed.

Watering: Water consistently, especially in pots and hanging baskets where soil dries quickly. Keep soil evenly moist but free-draining - avoid letting it dry out completely or remain waterlogged.

Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, whiteflies, and thrips. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Disease Management: Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases like powdery mildew or root rot. Use a free-draining potting mix and remove any yellowing or diseased foliage promptly.
