Notify MeBidens Rockstar is a compact, floriferous perennial celebrated for its intense golden-yellow flowers that appear in abundance from spring through to late autumn. Its neat, mounded habit and finely divided green foliage make it a standout for continuous garden colour with minimal care.
A bright addition to cottage, contemporary, pollinator-friendly, and coastal gardens, it excels in borders, pots, hanging baskets, and as vibrant ground cover.
Prefers full sun and well-draining soil. Drought-tolerant once established and benefits from light trimming or deadheading to encourage ongoing flowering. Space 25–35 cm apart for best coverage.
Mature size reaches 20–30 cm tall and spreads up to 40 cm wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim to shape as needed, especially if stems become leggy. A midsummer cutback by one-third can refresh growth and encourage a fuller, more compact form.
Deadheading: Not strictly necessary, as ‘Rockstar’ is self-cleaning, but occasional removal of spent flowers can enhance appearance and prolong flowering.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 3–4 weeks during the growing season for best flowering performance. Alternatively, use a slow-release fertiliser in early spring.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment and in extended dry periods. While drought-tolerant once established, consistent moisture encourages optimal flowering. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely.
Pest Control: Typically pest-resistant, but monitor for aphids or whitefly in sheltered spots. If needed, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Disease Management: Few disease issues when grown in well-drained soil. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to reduce fungal risks. Remove any affected foliage to maintain plant health.
