Notify MeBacopa cordata Scopia Double Blue is a charming trailing perennial known for its unique double-layered soft blue flowers, adding texture and depth to garden displays from late spring through to early autumn. Its compact, spreading form and lush green foliage make it an excellent choice for hanging baskets, container arrangements, or the front of borders, where it spills beautifully over edges.
Well-suited to cottage, coastal, and modern garden designs, it brings long-lasting colour and a delicate appearance to both sunny and lightly shaded areas.
Thrives in full sun to part shade with consistently moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly, especially in warmer months, to support continuous flowering. Space plants approximately 30 cm apart to allow for healthy trailing growth.
Mature size: Reaches 10–15 cm high and spreads up to 60 cm wide in a cascading form.
Trimming: Trim lightly throughout the growing season to encourage bushiness and prevent legginess. This is especially useful in containers and hanging baskets where shape is important.
Deadheading: Most Bacopa varieties are self-cleaning, but removing spent flowers can enhance overall tidiness and may prolong flowering during cooler periods.
Fertilising: Feed fortnightly during the flowering season (spring to early autumn) with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support lush growth and continuous flowering.
Watering: Bacopa prefers consistently moist soil—avoid letting it dry out. This is particularly important during the establishment phase and in containers, which can dry quickly in warm weather.
Pest Control: Generally resistant to pests, but keep an eye out for aphids and whiteflies. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.
Disease Management: Susceptible to powdery mildew and root rot if overwatered or poorly ventilated. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and remove any affected foliage. Treat with a fungicide if necessary.
