Bacopa Gulliver Violet

Bacopa monnieri Gulliver Violet is an eye-catching trailing perennial, featuring notably large violet-purple flowers that appear consistently from late spring through to early autumn. Its rich green foliage forms a dense, cascading mat, making it a standout choice for hanging baskets, containers, and garden borders where vibrant colour and soft form are desired.

Perfect for cottage, tropical, and contemporary gardens, it thrives in both container plantings and as groundcover in smaller garden spaces. The oversized flowers provide a striking contrast and attract pollinators.

Plant in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Maintain regular watering during warmer months to support continuous flowering. Space plants approximately 30 cm apart for healthy trailing growth.

Mature size: Reaches 10–15 cm high with a trailing spread of up to 60 cm.

Trimming: Trim lightly throughout the growing season to encourage bushiness and prevent legginess. This is especially useful in containers and hanging baskets where shape is important.

Deadheading: Most Bacopa varieties are self-cleaning, but removing spent flowers can enhance overall tidiness and may prolong flowering during cooler periods.

Fertilising: Feed fortnightly during the flowering season (spring to early autumn) with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support lush growth and continuous flowering.

Watering: Bacopa prefers consistently moist soil—avoid letting it dry out. This is particularly important during the establishment phase and in containers, which can dry quickly in warm weather.

Pest Control: Generally resistant to pests, but keep an eye out for aphids and whiteflies. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.

Disease Management: Susceptible to powdery mildew and root rot if overwatered or poorly ventilated. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and remove any affected foliage. Treat with a fungicide if necessary.
