Aubrieta Purple Cascade
Notify MeAubrieta Purple Cascade is a low-growing, evergreen perennial known for its vibrant display of rich purple flowers that cover the plant from early to mid-Spring. Its trailing habit and dense mat of small, grey-green foliage make it ideal for softening edges and adding early-season colour to garden spaces.
Well-suited to cottage, rock, or coastal gardens, Aubrieta Purple Cascade is perfect for borders, walls, retaining edges, and containers. It thrives in full sun with free-draining soil and is tolerant of dry conditions once established. Space approximately 30 cm apart to allow for natural spreading and coverage.
Forms a trailing mat approximately 15 cm high and spreading up to 45 cm wide.
Trimming: Shear back hard after flowering in late spring to maintain a compact, dense shape and encourage fresh growth. This also helps prevent the plant from becoming woody or leggy.
Deadheading: Not essential, but removing spent flowers during the flowering period can enhance appearance and may encourage a light second flush.
Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser to support vigorous growth and flowering. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers, which can reduce flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Purple Cascade is drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering during prolonged dry periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally susceptible to aphids-treat with insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Avoid overhead watering and remove any dead or damaged foliage to improve airflow and reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
