Astilbe Taquetti Lilac

Astilbe chinensis Taquetii Lilac is a tall, late-flowering perennial featuring dense, upright plumes of soft lilac-purple flowers from late Summer into early Autumn. Held above deep green, coarsely textured foliage, the flower spikes add vertical interest and gentle colour to shaded areas.

Well-suited to woodland gardens, moist borders, and naturalistic plantings, this Astilbe thrives in part to full shade with rich, consistently moist, well-drained soil. It benefits from regular watering and should be spaced 50–60cm apart to allow its tall flower spikes to shine.

Matures to approximately 90cm tall and 60cm wide, forming a bold, upright clump with graceful late-season colour.

Trimming: Cut back flower stems after flowering to keep the plant tidy. In late autumn, trim foliage to ground level as it begins to die back naturally.

Deadheading: Not essential, but removing spent flower spikes can improve appearance and redirect energy to the roots.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring, followed by a light top-up after flowering to support strong root development and next season’s growth.

Watering: Astilbe requires consistently moist soil—water regularly, particularly during dry spells and while establishing. Mulch can help retain moisture.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free, though slugs may occasionally nibble young shoots. Use slug bait or traps if needed.

Disease Management: Rarely affected by disease, but overly damp conditions can encourage root rot. Ensure soil is moist but well-drained, and remove any rotting foliage promptly.
