Aster novi-belgii Milka is a variety of the New York Aster with light purple petals and bright yellow centres. Its late flowering season ensures the garden remains colourful well into Autumn.

A versatile plant for borders, cottage gardens, or wildflower-themed spaces and is a great perennial for attracting bees. Prefers full sun and well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Tolerates light shade.

Space 40–50 cm apart to achieve a lush but airy display. It can grow up to anywhere between 30cm and 150cm depending on the soil type.  Will grow taller in rich, loamy soil with full sun.

Trimming: Remove spent flower stalks after flowering to tidy the plant. Cut back foliage in late autumn or early spring.

Deadheading: Deadheading is unnecessary as faded flowers add winter interest, but can be done for tidiness.

Fertilising: Feed with a slow-release fertiliser in early spring to promote lush growth and flowering.

Watering: Astilbes need consistently moist soil; water during dry periods and mulch to retain moisture.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free but occasionally prone to aphids; use insecticidal soap if required.

Disease Management: Monitor for powdery mildew and root rot; ensure good drainage and air circulation to prevent issues.
