Argyranthemum Mars
Notify MeArgyranthemum Mars is a striking, free-flowering perennial featuring rich red, daisy-like flowers with golden centres that create bold contrast against deep green foliage. Flowering from spring through to late autumn, it brings long-lasting colour and vibrancy to borders, garden beds, and containers. Best suited to sunny, well-drained positions with moderate soil moisture, it complements cottage, Mediterranean, and coastal garden styles. Space plants 30–40cm apart to maintain shape and airflow. Regular deadheading encourages prolonged flowering.
Mature Size: Reaches approximately 40cm high and 50cm wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering cycle to encourage bushy growth and repeat flowering. Cut back more firmly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and vigour.
Deadheading: Remove faded flowers regularly to extend the flowering season and keep the plant looking fresh.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Supplement with liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during active growth for best flowering performance.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during establishment. Once established, water deeply during prolonged dry spells, allowing the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between watering.
Pest Control: Check for common pests such as aphids and whiteflies. Manage infestations with neem oil or an appropriate insecticidal spray.
Disease Management: Prone to powdery mildew in humid conditions—ensure good airflow and avoid wetting foliage. Root rot can occur in waterlogged soils, so provide good drainage and avoid overwatering. Use a fungicide if needed.
