Aquilegia Origami Mix

Aquilegia Origami Mix is a vibrant, free-flowering columbine offering a stunning mix of large, upward-facing flowers in bold bi-colours including red, blue, pink, white, and yellow. With a long flowering period from late spring into early summer, this variety provides a vivid splash of colour above attractive, deeply cut foliage. Its strong stems and compact growth make it ideal for borders and cutting gardens.

A versatile choice for cottage gardens, mixed borders, and informal plantings. Complements romantic, woodland, and naturalistic garden styles.

Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained, fertile soil. Keep soil lightly moist during active growth and remove spent flowers to extend the flowering season. Space plants 30–40 cm apart to allow for tidy, robust growth.

Mature size: Grows to approximately 40–60 cm tall with a spread of 30–40 cm.

Trimming: Cut back flowering stems once flowering finishes to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage a possible second flush. In late autumn or early winter, trim foliage down to ground level as the plant enters dormancy.

Deadheading: Regularly deadhead to prolong the flowering period and prevent excessive self-seeding, unless you wish to collect or allow natural reseeding.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring as growth begins. ‘Origami Mix’ performs well in moderately fertile soil and doesn’t require heavy feeding.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in dry spells, particularly in spring and early summer while flowering. Once established, plants are moderately drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional watering in extended dry periods.

Pest Control: Monitor for aphids and leaf miners—remove affected leaves and treat with insecticidal soap if necessary. Protect young growth from slugs and snails using organic deterrents or physical barriers.

Disease Management: Susceptible to powdery mildew in humid or overcrowded conditions. Look for white, powdery deposits on foliage. Remove infected leaves, ensure good air circulation, and avoid overhead watering to reduce risk.
