Aquilegia Cameo Mix
Notify MeAquilegia Cameo Mix is a charming dwarf columbine featuring a delightful blend of pastel-toned flowers in shades of pink, blue, white, and lavender. Each delicate, nodding flower sits above soft, fern-like foliage, offering a long flowering display from late spring into early summer. Compact and free-flowering, this variety is ideal for adding soft colour and texture to smaller garden spaces.
A lovely choice for cottage gardens, rockeries, borders, and containers. Complements woodland, informal, or romantic garden styles.
Plant in part shade to full sun in well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Keep soil lightly moist and deadhead spent flowers to prolong flowering. Space plants approximately 20–30 cm apart for a full yet airy display.
Mature size: Forms compact clumps reaching 20–25 cm tall with a similar spread.
Trimming: Cut back spent foliage to ground level in late autumn or after flowering finishes to tidy the plant and encourage fresh growth. Lightly trim in spring to remove winter-damaged leaves.
Deadheading: Regularly deadhead faded flowers to prolong flowering and reduce self-seeding, unless seed collection is desired.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring as new growth emerges. Aquilegias generally don’t require heavy feeding.
Watering: Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season to help establish strong roots. Once established, they are moderately drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids and leaf miners. Remove affected leaves or treat with insecticidal soap if needed. Slugs and snails may damage young shoots—use barriers or organic pellets as control.
Disease Management: Powdery mildew can occur in humid conditions. Look for white, powdery patches on foliage—remove affected leaves and improve air circulation. Avoid overhead watering and space plants to minimise disease risk.
