Notify MeAntirrhinum majus Twinny Appleblossom is a compact, double-flowered snapdragon featuring soft pastel shades of blush pink and creamy white. Its ruffled, butterfly-like flowers appear in abundance from spring through to late summer, offering a long-lasting display and excellent weather resistance. Unlike traditional tall snapdragons, this variety has a bushy, mounding form perfect for front borders and containers.
Ideal for cottage, romantic, and courtyard garden styles, and well-suited to mass planting or mixed displays.
Thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and moderate moisture. Space 20–25 cm apart to encourage a dense, flowering habit.
Mature size: Compact and mounding, reaching approximately 30 cm high and 25 cm wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim or pinch back young plants to encourage a bushier form. After each flush of flowers, cut back spent stems to maintain a compact shape and encourage repeat flowering.
Deadheading: Regular deadheading is essential to prolong flowering. Remove faded flower spikes promptly to encourage continuous blooms.
Fertilising: Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy growth and vibrant flowering.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during the establishment phase and in dry conditions. Water at the base to avoid wetting foliage, which can encourage disease.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids and thrips, which may cause distorted growth or flower discolouration. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Disease Management: Susceptible to rust and powdery mildew. Look for rusty spots or white powder on leaves. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and apply a fungicide if needed. Remove and destroy any affected plant material.
