Alyssum Deep Pink
Notify MeAlyssum Deep Pink is a compact, low-growing annual known for its masses of tiny, deep pink flowers that appear continuously from spring through to autumn. With a soft, honey-like fragrance and spreading habit, it creates a colourful carpet effect that’s ideal for edging, hanging baskets, rockeries, or filling gaps in borders. Forming neat mounds approximately 10-15 cm high and 20-30 cm wide, it adds vibrant, ground-hugging colour to a wide range of garden styles including cottage, coastal, and Mediterranean designs.
Thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, and is tolerant of dry conditions once established. Space plants 15-20 cm apart to encourage even coverage and airflow. Deadheading or light trimming promotes prolonged flowering throughout the warmer months.
Trimming: Trim back lightly after the first flush of flowers to encourage fresh growth and a second flowering. At the end of the season, cut back to tidy the plant or remove if grown as an annual.
Deadheading: Regularly deadhead spent flowers to extend the flowering period and maintain a tidy appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly during the growing season, particularly in poor soils, to encourage continuous flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment and in dry conditions. While drought-tolerant once established, Alyssum performs best with consistent moisture in well-drained soil.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids and whiteflies, especially in warm weather. Use insecticidal soap or horticultural oil as needed.
Disease Management: Root rot can occur in poorly drained soils-ensure good drainage. Watch for powdery mildew in humid conditions; improve airflow and remove affected leaves promptly. Avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal issues.
