Alstroemeria Red Baron

Alstroemeria Red Baron is a compact, clump-forming perennial known for its vibrant red flowers with golden-yellow throats and subtle dark markings. Flowering continuously from late spring through to early autumn, it brings bold, long-lasting colour to borders, containers, and cut flower arrangements. With a tidy growth habit reaching around 40-60 cm high and wide, it suits cottage, subtropical, and contemporary garden styles.

Plant in full sun to partial shade with well-draining, moderately moist soil. Space plants 30-40 cm apart to allow for healthy clump formation and airflow. Mulch annually to retain soil moisture and protect roots during cooler months. Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage ongoing flowering.

Trimming: Remove spent flowering stems by pulling or cutting them at the base to encourage continuous blooming and fresh growth. In late autumn or winter, cut back yellowing foliage to just above ground level.

Deadheading: Regularly deadhead faded flowers to prolong the flowering period and prevent seed formation, which can reduce vigour.

Fertilising: Feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser (e.g., tomato food) to promote abundant flowering.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist during establishment and through dry periods, especially in summer. Ensure good drainage to avoid root rot.

Pest Control: Slugs and snails may damage young shoots-use organic deterrents or bait as needed. Watch for aphids on flower stems and buds.

Disease Management: Susceptible to botrytis (grey mould) in damp or humid conditions. Remove any affected foliage promptly and improve air circulation. Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal issues.
