Flowering consistently from late spring through to early autumn, it offers long-lasting colour in garden beds, patio containers, or as a striking cut flower. Growing to approximately 40-60 cm high and wide, its neat form suits subtropical, cottage, and modern garden designs.
Plant in a sunny to partially shaded position with well-draining, moderately moist soil. Allow 30-40 cm between plants for healthy clump development and airflow. An annual layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture and protect roots during cooler months.
Trimming: Remove spent stems by pulling or cutting them at the base to encourage fresh growth and continued flowering. Cut back all foliage to just above ground level in late autumn or early winter once it begins to die back.
Deadheading: Regularly deadhead faded flowers to prolong the flowering season and reduce seed formation.
Fertilising: Feed every 2-3 weeks during the flowering period with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser to promote abundant blooms and strong growth.
Watering: Water deeply and consistently during establishment and dry periods, particularly in summer. Keep the soil moist but well-drained to avoid root issues.
Pest Control: Keep an eye out for slugs and snails, which may feed on new growth. Use barriers or organic slug control methods as needed.
Disease Management: Watch for signs of botrytis (grey mould), such as grey, fuzzy patches on stems or leaves. Remove any affected parts promptly and ensure good air circulation. Avoid overhead watering to minimise risk.
