Preferred Conditions
Thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-draining, fertile soil. Keep soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging. Space plants approximately 30 cm apart for optimal growth and airflow.
Mature Size
Reaches a compact height of 30–40 cm with a similar spread, forming a dense, floriferous clump.
Trimming: Cut back spent stems to encourage fresh growth. In late winter or early spring, remove any dead or damaged foliage. For continuous flowering, gently pull rather than cut stems at the base.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to prolong flowering and maintain plant vigour.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring and again in mid-summer. A liquid feed high in potassium (such as tomato fertiliser) can encourage better flowering.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells and the plant’s establishment period. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids and slugs, particularly in spring. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil for aphids and organic slug control methods as needed.
Disease Management: Alstroemeria can be prone to botrytis (grey mould) in humid conditions. Ensure good air circulation and remove affected leaves promptly. Avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal risks.
