Notify MeAlstroemeria Inca Amsterdam is a compact, long-flowering perennial prized for its striking red flowers with golden-yellow throats and delicate burgundy markings. Flowering from late spring through to autumn, it produces an abundance of colour above lush, green foliage, making it a standout feature in borders and containers.
Ideal for cottage, contemporary, and cut-flower gardens, Alstroemeria Inca Amsterdam is perfect for borders, mass planting, or patio pots. It thrives in full sun to part shade with free-draining soil and benefits from regular feeding during the flowering season. Remove spent flowers to encourage continued production. Space approximately 30 to 40 cm apart for best display.
Forms a dense clump reaching around 40 to 50 cm high and 40 cm wide.
Trimming: Remove spent flower stems by pulling (not cutting) them from the base to stimulate continuous flowering. At the end of the season, cut back any yellowing or untidy foliage to tidy the plant and encourage fresh growth.
Deadheading: Essential. Regularly deadhead spent flowers to prolong the flowering period and maintain a neat appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring. For ongoing flowering, supplement with a liquid feed every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season.
Watering: Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the warmer months. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Well-drained soil is essential to prevent root issues.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids, slugs and snails, particularly around young shoots. Use insecticidal soap for aphids and traps or bait for slugs and snails if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases such as botrytis. Remove any yellowing, spotted or damaged leaves promptly. Ensure the crown is not buried too deeply to prevent rot.
