Agapanthus Thunderstorm

Agapanthus Thunderstorm is a stunning evergreen variety distinguished by its striking variegated foliage of deep green leaves edged with creamy white. In summer, tall stems bear clusters of violet-blue, trumpet-shaped flowers, creating a dramatic and eye-catching contrast with the foliage. This versatile plant offers year-round interest, making it a standout choice for gardens or containers.

Ideal for modern, tropical, or coastal gardens, Thunderstorm thrives in full sun and well-drained soils. It is hardy, drought-tolerant once established, and requires minimal care. Space plants 30–40 cm apart to allow for its clumping growth habit.

Mature size: Reaches up to 60–80 cm in height (including flower stems) and 40–50 cm in width, forming a dense, variegated mound.

Trimming: Cut back foliage in late autumn or winter once it has died back naturally. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves during the growing season to maintain a tidy appearance.

Deadheading: Remove spent flower stems after flowering to encourage further blooms and prevent self-seeding, especially if managing invasive tendencies.

Fertilising: Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth and flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can reduce flower production.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and dry periods. Established Agapanthus are drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering during hot weather.

Pest Control: Check for slugs, snails, and mealybugs. Remove pests manually or use suitable deterrents.

Disease Management: Agapanthus are generally disease-resistant but may develop root rot in poorly draining soil. Ensure soil is well-draining and avoid overwatering.
