Agapanthus Blue Mountain
Notify MeAgapanthus Blue Mountain is a compact, clump-forming evergreen perennial that produces large heads of deep blue, trumpet-shaped flowers from mid to late Summer. Held on sturdy stems above lush strappy green foliage, the vibrant flowers add strong seasonal colour and are ideal for attracting pollinators to the garden.
Perfect for coastal, contemporary, or cottage gardens, Agapanthus Blue Mountain is well-suited to borders, edging, mass planting, or container displays. It thrives in full sun with free-draining soil and is tolerant of drought and coastal conditions once established. Space approximately 40–50 cm apart to allow for mature spread and airflow.
Forms a neat, clump-forming plant approximately 60 cm high and 50 cm wide.
Trimming: Cut back spent flower stalks after flowering to maintain a tidy appearance and prevent self-seeding. In late winter, remove any dead or damaged foliage to encourage fresh new growth.
Deadheading: Regularly remove faded flower heads to prolong the flowering period and prevent unwanted spread by seed.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. In poor soils, a second light feed in midsummer can support strong flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Blue Mountain is drought tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering during extended dry spells.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Keep an eye out for snails or slugs, especially in damp or shaded areas, which may damage young foliage.
Disease Management: Rarely troubled by disease. Avoid waterlogging and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Remove old or damaged leaves to improve air circulation and reduce the risk of fungal issues.
