Achillea millefolium Butterscotch is a variety of yarrow with peachy, butterscotch-toned clusters of flowers amongst fern-like foliage.
Achillea is a versatile addition to cottage, prairie, or wildflower gardens. Its long-lasting flowers make it ideal for cut arrangements and dried floral crafts. It thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soils, tolerating dry conditions once established.
Space 40–50 cm apart to allow for its naturally spreading habit. Grows to approximately 60 cm tall, forming a compact mound of foliage with upright flower stems that sway gently in the breeze. This perennial can be divided up in early spring or autumn. V
Trimming: Trim back spent flowering stems in late autumn or early spring to encourage fresh growth. Remove any dead or damaged foliage throughout the year.
Deadheading: Regularly deadhead faded flowers to prolong the flowering season.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to support growth, but avoid over-fertilising as this can cause floppy stems.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in prolonged dry spells, but ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root rot.
Pest Control: Look out for aphids and treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Disease Management: Watch for powdery mildew, which appears as a white powder on leaves; improve air circulation and treat with a fungicide if needed.
