Achillea Anthea

Achillea ‘Anthea’ is a hardy, herbaceous perennial known for its soft, creamy-yellow flower heads that rise above feathery, grey-green foliage. Blooming from late Spring through to early Autumn, the flat-topped flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Its long-lasting flowers are also perfect for cutting and drying.

Ideal for cottage gardens, meadow plantings, or sunny borders, where its soft colouring complements other perennials. Thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soil, tolerating dry conditions once established. Plant in groups for the best visual impact, with a spacing of 40–50 cm between plants to allow for airflow.

Reaches a mature height of 60–70 cm with a spread of 40–50 cm, forming a neat, clump-forming habit.

  • Trimming: Cut back faded flower stems and trim to maintain a neat appearance throughout the growing season. In late autumn or early spring, cut back old growth to ground level to encourage fresh growth.
  • Fertilising: Achillea thrives in low-nutrient soil, so fertilisation is generally unnecessary. If needed, apply a balanced fertiliser sparingly in early spring.
  • Watering: Water young plants during establishment. Once established, Achillea is drought-tolerant and rarely needs additional watering except during prolonged dry spells.
  • Pest Control: Monitor for aphids and spittlebugs. Remove pests by hand or use insecticidal soap as necessary.
  • Disease Management: Watch for powdery mildew (white, powdery coating on leaves), especially in humid conditions. Improve air circulation and water at the base to avoid wetting the foliage. Apply a fungicide if needed.
