Scleranthus biflorus

Scleranthus biflorus.  A bright-green, moss-like ground cover that forms a plump cushion-like shape. Position in full sun. Use as an edging, in rockeries or containers and general garden beds. Requires moist, free-draining soil.. Hardy. Evergreen. 20cm x 20cm.

Trimming: Trim lightly as needed to maintain a neat, compact cushion shape and remove any dead or untidy growth. Avoid cutting back heavily, as recovery can be slow.

Fertilising: Scleranthus biflorus thrives in low-fertility conditions and typically requires little fertiliser. If growth is poor, apply a light dressing of a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase to encourage strong root development. Once established, it is relatively drought tolerant but will benefit from occasional watering during extended dry periods, particularly in free-draining soils.

Pest Control: Generally pest free, though slugs and snails may occasionally damage young growth. Control with traps, barriers, or suitable slug and snail treatments if necessary.

Disease Management: Excess moisture and poor drainage can lead to root and crown rot. Watch for yellowing foliage, soft growth, or plant collapse. Improve drainage, avoid overwatering, and remove affected sections promptly to prevent further spread.
