Parahebe catarractae White
Parahebe catarractae White is a compact, evergreen groundcover with small, glossy green leaves and delicate white flowers with subtle lilac markings, appearing from spring through to early summer. Native to New Zealand, it’s well suited to rockeries, borders, and native or low-maintenance gardens.
Plant in full sun to partial shade with free-draining soil. Tolerates light frost and dry conditions once established. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and encourage further flowering. Space plants 30 to 40 centimetres apart for groundcover use.
Grows to around 20 to 30 centimetres tall and spreads up to 40 centimetres wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth. Remove any leggy or damaged stems as needed throughout the season.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to extend the flowering period and keep the plant looking tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. In poor soils, a light liquid feed every four to six weeks during the growing season will support flowering and foliage health.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods. Ensure soil is well drained.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally monitor for aphids on new growth and treat with insecticidal soap if necessary.
Disease Management: Rarely troubled by disease. Maintain good airflow around the plant to reduce the risk of fungal issues and avoid overwatering. Remove any yellow or damaged foliage to support plant health.
