Pachystegia rufa

Pachystegia rufa - a robust, spreading shrub with stout branches covered with brown hairs. The large, leathery oblong leaves are crowded towards the ends of the branches, deep green and shiny on top;  the undersurface is clad with a thick, reddish-fawn tomentum. In spring it has large white daisy-like flowers with yellow centres. It ocurs naturally in northeastern Marlborough. Only a small population remains in the wild. It needs well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight - never crowd out with other plants.
