Hebe Wiri Splash
Hebe Wiri Splash is a compact evergreen shrub valued for its year-round interest. Its small, glossy green leaves are tinged with burgundy, especially in cooler weather. From late spring through summer, it produces clusters of soft lilac-pink flowers that stand out against the colourful foliage, drawing in bees and other pollinators.
Ideal for borders, containers, or as a highlight in coastal, contemporary, or native-style gardens, it grows well in full sun to light shade and prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture. Wind- and light frost-tolerant, it's a hardy choice for exposed areas. Space 60 cm apart for group or hedge planting. Mature plants form a dense, rounded shape, reaching 60 to 80 cm in height and width.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact, bushy shape. Remove any leggy or dead stems in early spring to encourage healthy new growth.
Fertilising: Apply a slow-release general-purpose fertiliser in early spring to support healthy foliage and flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment and in dry periods. Once established, Hebe Wiri Splash is moderately drought-tolerant but appreciates occasional deep watering in extended dry spells.
Disease Management: Watch for downy mildew or leaf spot, particularly in damp or poorly ventilated conditions. Remove affected foliage and ensure good airflow around the plant. Avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal risk.
