Coprosma Pink Stems
Notify MeCoprosma Pink Stems is a compact, evergreen shrub grown for its glossy green leaves and striking bright pink new stems. Its tidy, upright form and year-round colour make it ideal for borders, low hedging, and modern or coastal gardens.
Plant in full sun to partial shade with free-draining soil. Tolerates wind, coastal conditions, and light frost once established. Trim lightly to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth. Space plants 50 to 60 centimetres apart for hedging or grouped planting.
Grows to around 1 metre tall and 80 centimetres wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and maintain compact growth. Remove any damaged or leggy stems as needed throughout the year.
Deadheading: Not required, as this plant is grown for its colourful foliage rather than its flowers.
Fertilising: Apply a general-purpose slow-release fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth. A second light application in mid-summer can be beneficial in poor soils.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant but performs best with occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant. Monitor for scale or aphids, especially in warm, sheltered spots. Treat with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease Management: Rarely troubled by disease. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot, and remove any discoloured or damaged foliage to maintain plant health.
