Philodendron Hope

Its self-heading growth habit means it forms a neat clump without climbing, making it well-suited to both indoor use and sheltered outdoor planting. The dramatic leaf structure adds year-round interest and architectural form.
Ideal for tropical, subtropical, and contemporary gardens, Philodendron Hope works well in large containers, shaded borders, or as underplanting beneath trees. It prefers part shade with consistent moisture and rich, free-draining soil. Space approximately 80-100 cm apart when planting in garden beds.
Develops into a tidy, clumping form reaching around 1.2 metres high and 1.2 to 1.5 metres wide.
Trimming: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves at the base to encourage new growth and maintain a tidy appearance. Use clean, sharp secateurs to prevent tearing the thick stems.
Deadheading: Not applicable, as this foliage plant is grown for its lush, decorative leaves rather than flowers.
Fertilising: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Avoid overfeeding in winter when growth naturally slows.
Watering: Water thoroughly when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Reduce frequency during cooler months. Ensure the soil drains freely to prevent root rot.
Pest Control: Watch for common indoor pests like mealybugs, scale, and spider mites. Wipe leaves regularly with a damp cloth to discourage infestations, and treat outbreaks with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Disease Management: Root rot is the main concern, usually due to overwatering. Ensure pots have drainage holes and never let the plant sit in water. If leaves turn mushy or emit a foul smell, inspect the roots and trim any affected parts before repotting in fresh mix.
