Thymus x Citriodorus Variegata
Notify MeThymus × citriodorus Variegata is a compact, evergreen herb featuring creamy-yellow and green variegated foliage with a pleasant lemon scent. Soft pink to pale purple flowers appear in late spring to early summer, attracting bees and beneficial insects. Ideal for herb gardens, edging, rockeries, and containers.
Plant in full sun with free-draining soil. Tolerates drought and poor soils once established. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. Space plants 25 to 30 centimetres apart for groundcover or border use.
Grows to around 15 centimetres tall and 30 centimetres wide.
Trimming: Trim lightly after flowering and as needed to maintain a neat, compact form. Avoid cutting into old woody stems, as regrowth can be limited.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower heads to keep the plant tidy and encourage fresh foliage growth.
Fertilising: In most soils, additional feeding is not necessary. In poor soils, apply a light dose of low-nitrogen fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and thrives in dry, well-drained soil. Avoid overwatering, especially in cooler months.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Monitor for aphids on young shoots and treat with insecticidal soap if required.
Disease Management: Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot. Avoid overhead watering and remove any dead or diseased foliage to improve airflow and reduce the risk of fungal problems.
