Thymus citriodorus Silver Queen, also known as Silver Queen Lemon Thyme, is primarily grown as a culinary herb for its rich, lemon-scented leaves. This unique variety provides excellent versatility to the garden with its aromatic, variegated green and silver foliage that can be used in cooking and delicate lavender flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer.
It is an erect, bushy, woody-based perennial with upward-branching stems. Leaves are frequently used fresh or dried (much better fresh) as a seasoning in a variety of culinary applications including salads, soups, stews, sauces, and meat or fish dishes. Fresh sprigs may be used as a garnish.
Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates drought and poor soils of somewhat low fertility. Loose, sandy or rocky soils with excellent drainage are best. Dislikes wet soils where it tends to rot.
With a mature height of just 20 - 30 cm and a spread of up to 40 cm, 'Silver Queen' is an excellent choice for ground cover, rock gardens, herb gardens, boarders or even as a container plant.
