Waterhousea floribunda, is an Australian native known as the Weeping Lilly Pilly due to its slightly drooping habit. Its foliage is lush and very attractive. New growth is a rust-red that turns green as it ages adding some lovely contrast. It flowers in summer with trusses of fluffy white flowers followed by pale pink to pale green fruit.
It is often used as a hedge/screen and responds well to pruning after it has flowered. Although often used as a hedge, it can also be planted as a standalone specimen, for instance as a street tree or shade tree in parks.
The height can be determined by the conditions, but untrimmed will reach at least 8m tall and a spread of at least 5 meters. It can easily grow in many soil types but prefers full sun and moist soils. It is frost-tolerant and can cope with spells of dry periods. Grows quickly when adequate water and a low phosphorus, slow-release fertiliser are given.
