Its small yellow flowers, which appear in spring, are followed by red or orange berries that attract birds. This hardy plant adds unique texture and interest to any garden throughout the year.
Ideal for contemporary, coastal, and low-maintenance gardens, Corokia Paritutu is versatile enough to be used as a hedge, in mixed borders, or as a standalone feature plant. Thriving in full sun to partial shade, it prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture and is tolerant of coastal conditions and drought once established. Little care required, but regular trims and fertilising will ensure nice form and dense growth if used as a hedge
For optimal growth, space the plants about 1-1.5m apart to allow them to develop their natural shape. At maturity, this shrub reaches a height and spread of approximately 2-3m.
Trimming: Lightly trim in early spring to maintain the desired shape and encourage dense growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches as needed.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. Avoid over-fertilising, as this plant thrives in moderately fertile soil.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and during extended dry periods. Once established, Corokia Paritutu is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, but watch for aphids and scale insects. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil, ensuring thorough coverage.
Disease Management: Corokia Paritutu is typically disease-resistant. However, ensure good air circulation and avoid waterlogged soil to prevent potential root rot and fungal diseases. Remove any affected foliage promptly.
