Lomandra Golden Girl
Notify MeLomandra Golden Girl is a compact, hardy grass-like perennial with arching, golden-yellow foliage that stays tidy and colourful year-round. In spring and early summer it produces small, subtle cream flowers held close to the foliage, adding gentle texture without distracting from the bright leaves. Its clumping habit makes it a dependable choice for edging, mass planting, and low-maintenance colour in tough spots.
Perfect for coastal, modern, or Mediterranean garden styles, Golden Girl thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil, though it copes well with a range of conditions once established. It is drought-tolerant and handles wind and heat, making it ideal for exposed sites, streetscapes, and sloping banks. Space plants 50-70 cm apart for a full, even planting.
Mature size: Reaches around 40-60 cm in height and 50-70 cm in width, forming a dense, rounded clump.
Trimming: Trim back old or damaged foliage in late winter or early spring to refresh the plant and encourage new growth. A light tidy-up throughout the year will help maintain a neat appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a slow-release fertiliser in early spring. In poor soils, a light liquid feed once or twice during the growing season can enhance foliage colour and vigour.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Ensure soil is well drained.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally check for sap-sucking insects like aphids or scale, and treat with insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease Management: Very low disease risk. Avoid waterlogged conditions to prevent root rot. Remove any discoloured or dead foliage to maintain good airflow and plant health.
