Hemerocallis Moroccan Summer
Hemerocallis Moroccan Summer is a striking daylily with vibrant orange-red flowers up to 15 cm wide that appear mid to late summer. Its green, grass-like foliage creates a soft, textured backdrop for the bold flowers. This hardy perennial thrives in full sun, prefers well-drained soil, and becomes drought-tolerant once established.
Ideal for adding colour to borders, cottage gardens, and mixed beds, it also complements Mediterranean or modern landscapes. Pair it with ornamental grasses or lavender for a vibrant, cohesive look. Plant in sunny spots, with light shade tolerated, and space about 60 cm apart.
Mature plants reach 60–90 cm tall, forming dense, graceful clumps that are easy to maintain.
Trimming: Cut back spent flower stalks after flowering to keep the plant tidy. Trim foliage to ground level in late autumn or early spring to encourage fresh growth.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers daily during the flowering season to maintain a tidy display and promote further flowering.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring and again midseason to support robust growth and prolonged flowering.
Watering: Ensure consistent watering during dry spells, especially during the establishment phase and flowering period. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely.
Pest Control: Look out for aphids and spider mites, which may affect foliage. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
Disease Management: Monitor for daylily rust (yellow or orange spots on leaves) and leaf streak. Remove affected leaves and ensure good air circulation. Avoid overhead watering to minimise fungal spread.
