Notify MeHemerocallis Aztec Beauty is a hardy, clump-forming perennial featuring large, golden-yellow trumpet-shaped flowers that appear from late spring through summer. Each flower lasts just one day, but the plant produces multiple buds over an extended period, creating a vibrant, long-lasting display above arching green foliage.
Ideal for cottage, perennial, and low-maintenance gardens, Hemerocallis Aztec Beauty is perfect for borders, mass planting, or container displays. It thrives in full sun to part shade with free-draining soil and is tolerant of drought and light frost once established. Space approximately 40 to 60 cm apart for garden beds.
Forms a tidy clump reaching around 60 to 70 cm high and 40 to 50 cm wide.
Trimming: Remove spent flower stems at the base after flowering to tidy the plant and encourage repeat flowering. In late autumn or winter, cut back old foliage to just above ground level to make way for fresh spring growth.
Deadheading: Recommended. Remove individual spent flowers daily during the flowering period to enhance appearance and encourage more buds to develop.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring. For extended flowering, supplement with a liquid fertiliser every 4 to 6 weeks throughout the growing season.
Watering: Water regularly during active growth and flowering, especially in dry conditions. Hemerocallis prefer moist but well-drained soil. Mulch around the base to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Pest Control: Generally low maintenance, but slugs and snails may damage young shoots. Use bait or traps if needed. Occasionally, aphids may appear and can be controlled with insecticidal soap.
Disease Management: Watch for leaf streak and rust in humid conditions. Remove affected foliage and improve air circulation to reduce fungal risk. Avoid overhead watering and clean up dead leaves in autumn to minimise disease carryover.
