Olea Verdale is a French olive tree variety known for its large and plump green olives, which are frequently used for pickling. It is a medium-sized tree that can grow to 6-8m tall and 4-6m wide. The leaves are elongated and lance-shaped, with a glossy-green top and a silver-grey underside. In the spring, the tree produces small, fragrant white flowers that mature into medium to large-sized fruit that is green when young and turns a light purple colour when fully ripe. The fruit has a slightly nutty and buttery flavour and is mostly used for pickling because it retains its shape and firm texture even after curing. Regular watering during the growing season is necessary and pruning is typically required to maintain the tree's shape and size and to promote optimal fruit production.
