Malus trilobata - Bare-Rooted

Malus trilobata, commonly known as the Lebanese Wild Apple, is a deciduous crabapple species with a distinctive upright form and deeply lobed, maple-like foliage. Its neat, vertical shape and unusual leaf form set it apart from other Malus species. White flowering appears in Spring, followed by small red fruit that adds visual interest through late Summer and into Autumn.

Primarily grown for its foliage and form, Malus trilobata also offers excellent Autumn colour, with leaves turning rich shades of yellow, orange, and red. Suitable for structured or avenue planting, as well as adding vertical interest to mixed borders or large gardens. Prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Typically reaches 6-10 metres tall and around 3-4 metres wide.

What is a bare-rooted tree?

Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport. 

What are the benefits? 

• Less packaging and plastic waste involved in growing process and transportation. 
• Plant has more root mass as the roots have not been constricted and twisted by a pot.
• They are easier to carry and plant as they are extremely lightweight.
• Bare-rooted trees are cheaper as they do not come with soil and pots. 
• Planting bare-rooted trees in the winter follows the natural pattern of the seasons.
