Blueberry Power Blue is a late-season blueberry known for its heavy crops of firm, mildly sweet berries covered in a characteristic pale blue 'powdery' bloom. Flowering in late Spring and fruiting from late Summer into early Autumn, this variety is well-suited to warmer regions and offers striking red-orange foliage in Autumn.
Ideal for home orchards, edible hedging, or feature planting, it suits lifestyle block, cottage, and productive garden settings.
Plant in full sun with acidic, free-draining soil. Ensure consistent moisture through the growing season, especially during flowering and fruiting. Space plants 1.2–1.5m apart to support healthy growth and airflow.
Mature size: Upright and spreading, reaching approximately 1.5–2m tall and 1.5m wide.

Trimming: Prune in late winter to early spring while the plant is dormant. Remove dead, damaged, or congested stems to maintain an open framework and encourage healthy air circulation. For mature plants, rejuvenate by removing up to a third of the oldest canes at ground level to promote strong new growth.
Deadheading: Not required, but removing shrivelled or unharvested berries after fruiting helps keep the plant tidy and reduces the risk of disease.
Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants (such as camellias or rhododendrons). A light second application in late summer may support ongoing vigour. Avoid alkaline or lime-based fertilisers.
Watering: Provide consistent moisture, especially during the establishment phase and in dry periods. ‘Powder Blue’ benefits from regular watering during flowering and fruit development. Mulch with pine bark or other acidic organic matter to retain moisture and support soil health.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, though birds are attracted to the berries—netting is recommended during the ripening season. Check for aphids and scale insects on young shoots and treat with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure well-drained soil to prevent root rot. In humid conditions, watch for powdery mildew (white coating on leaves) and treat with a sulphur-based fungicide if present. Maintain airflow with regular pruning and adequate plant spacing.
