Blackberry True Bliss
Notify MeBlackberry True Bliss is a modern thornless variety known for its exceptionally sweet, juicy berries and high yield. Producing fruit from mid to late summer, it delivers large, glossy black berries that are perfect for fresh eating, baking, or preserving. Its semi-erect canes are easy to manage, making it a user-friendly choice for home gardeners.
Ideal for edible, cottage, and kitchen gardens, it thrives when trained along a fence or trellis and is also suitable for larger containers.
Prefers full sun and rich, well-draining soil. Keep soil evenly moist during fruiting, and space plants 1.5–2 metres apart to encourage airflow and strong production. Provide support for the arching canes.
Mature size reaches 1.5–2 metres tall with trailing canes extending up to 3 metres long.
Trimming: In late winter or early spring, remove any dead, damaged, or diseased canes by cutting them down to ground level. For varieties that fruit on second-year canes, prune out the canes that have already fruited to encourage new growth.
Deadheading: Not applicable.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth. Once flowering begins, switch to a potassium-rich fertiliser to encourage better fruiting.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods and fruit development. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as aphids and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary.
Disease Management: Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases like powdery mildew and leaf spot. Remove and dispose of any infected plant material promptly.
