Quercus petraea x robur - Field-Grown

The hybrid Quercus Petraea x Robur is a cross between the Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea) and the English Oak (Quercus robur). This magnificent deciduous tree combines the strength of both parent species, with a broad, rounded canopy, sturdy trunk, and brilliant, lobed green leaves that turn a lovely russet in the autumn months.

It tolerates of a variety of soil types as long as it is are well-drained. It prefers full light but will adapt to moderate shade. It is a sturdy type that can tolerate cold winters and is generally resistant to pests and illnesses.

It is perfect for use as a specimen tree in big gardens or parks due to its wide spread and dominating presence and provides good shade for underplanting and gives a safe home for wildlife.

Upon reaching maturity, Quercus petraea x robur can achieve an impressive height of 20-30 metres. Though a slow grower, its ultimate size should be considered when choosing the planting location.

Field-grown plants are grown directly in open fields, enabling their roots to spread and develop naturally, resulting in larger size, established root systems, and increased resilience. When transporting these plants, hessian, a coarse fabric made from natural fibres like jute, is commonly used to wrap their roots, providing protection during transportation and handling.
