Podocarpus Matapouri Blue - Field-Grown

Add a touch of cool elegance to your garden with our field-grown Podocarpus totara Matapouri Blue. This unique variety of the native New Zealand Totara tree is admired for its distinct, blue-grey needle-like foliage, forming a dense, pyramidal shape that brings structure and colour to your garden year-round.

It prefers well-drained soils and can tolerate a range of pH conditions. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, proving adaptable and hardy in its growing conditions. It withstands cold winters well and is generally resistant to pests and diseases.

Given its pyramidal shape and year-round interest, Matapouri Blue makes a striking specimen tree. It can also be used to create an impactful hedge or screen, offering privacy and noise reduction.

Matapouri Blue can reach a height of 6-8 metres upon maturity. Its slow to moderate growth rate allows for easy management of its height and form.

Field-grown plants are grown directly in open fields, enabling their roots to spread and develop naturally, resulting in larger size, established root systems, and increased resilience. When transporting these plants, hessian, a coarse fabric made from natural fibres like jute, is commonly used to wrap their roots, providing protection during transportation and handling.
