Laurus nobilis - Field-Grown

Elevate your outdoor space with our field-grown Laurus Nobilis, commonly known as Bay Tree. This grade (pictured) has an average height of 130cm from the base of the trunk to the top of its stems so will make an instant impact. This aromatic evergreen plant hails from the laurel family, offering glossy dark green leaves and a distinctive scent.

It favours a well-drained, fertile soil, but tolerates both clay and sandy conditions. It prefers a sunny to partially shaded position and  shows resilience against coastal exposure and city pollution, adapting well to a variety of environments. In colder regions, it would appreciate a sheltered spot to guard against harsh frosts.

It is most commonly used for formal hedging, creating a stunning green boundary that retains its vibrant colour all year round. Given its dense foliage, it also serves well as a screening plant for added privacy. With routine pruning, Laurus Nobilis can be shaped into topiaries, providing a visually impressive garden feature. Its aromatic leaves are also edible and are often used in culinary practices, adding an extra level of functionality to this beautiful shrub.

Left unchecked, the Laurus Nobilis can grow up to 7-12 metres high. However, with regular pruning and maintenance, it can be easily kept at a more manageable height to suit your garden’s design as it has a slower growth rate.

Field-grown plants are grown directly in open fields, enabling their roots to spread and develop naturally, resulting in larger size, established root systems, and increased resilience. When transporting these plants, hessian, a coarse fabric made from natural fibres like jute, is commonly used to wrap their roots, providing protection during transportation and handling.
