Ginkgo biloba - Field-Grown

Ginkgo biloba, commonly known as the Maidenhair Tree, is a unique and ancient deciduous tree renowned for its distinctive fan-shaped leaves and vibrant yellow autumn color. This tree has a remarkable history, dating back over 200 million years, and is often considered a living fossil.

In the garden, Ginkgo biloba is an excellent choice for a variety of uses, including as a specimen tree, in urban settings, or in large gardens. It thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soil, although it is highly adaptable and can tolerate various soil conditions, including clay and compacted soils. This resilience makes it suitable for both contemporary and traditional garden styles.

When planting Ginkgo biloba, space the trees about 8 meters apart to allow for their mature size and spread. Initially grows with a pyramidal habit, but later becomes wide-spreading. It requires regular watering during its establishment period but is notably drought-tolerant and low-maintenance once mature. This tree is also resistant to pests and diseases, adding to its appeal for gardeners seeking a long-lasting and trouble-free addition to their landscape.

Mature Size: 15-20 meters tall and 8-10 meters wide.

Field-grown plants are grown directly in open fields, enabling their roots to spread and develop naturally, resulting in larger size, established root systems, and increased resilience. When transporting these plants, hessian, a coarse fabric made from natural fibres like jute, is commonly used to wrap their roots, providing protection during transportation and handling.
