Dietes bicolour

Trimming: Trim away old, damaged, or untidy foliage at the base to keep Dietes bicolour looking fresh and tidy. Remove spent flower stems once they have finished to encourage a neater appearance, but avoid cutting the whole clump back hard unless it has become very overgrown.

Deadheading: Deadhead spent flowers regularly to improve the plant’s appearance and help encourage continued flowering through the warmer months. Cut finished flower stems back close to the base once they have completely finished.

Fertilising: Feed in spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser to support healthy foliage and strong flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can encourage excessive leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

Watering: Water regularly while establishing, especially during the first growing season. Once established, Dietes bicolour is relatively drought tolerant, but it will perform best with occasional deep watering during extended dry periods or extreme heat.

Pest Control: Generally low maintenance, though aphids, scale, or mealybugs may occasionally appear. Check the leaves and stems for sticky residue, distorted growth, or small insects, and treat with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil if needed.

Disease Management: Watch for leaf spot or root rot, particularly in poorly drained soils or overly wet conditions. Remove affected foliage, improve airflow around the plant, and avoid waterlogging. If root rot is suspected, reduce watering and improve drainage where possible.
