Chamaecyparis Barry's White

Chamaecyparis pisifera Barry's White is a striking dwarf conifer with soft, fine foliage in shimmering tones of grey-blue and frosted white. Its compact, conical form offers year-round interest, with foliage colour intensifying in cooler months. This slow-growing evergreen makes a stunning focal point or a bright accent in mixed plantings, containers, or rockeries.

Versatile and hardy, it suits sunny to lightly shaded positions and thrives in free-draining soil. Ideal for pots, planters and structured garden beds, it complements contemporary, Japanese-inspired and formal garden styles. Minimal maintenance is required beyond occasional shaping.

Reaches a mature height of 1.5 to 1.8 metres and a spread of around 1.2 metres.

Trimming: Minimal pruning is needed. Lightly shape in late winter or early spring to maintain its compact, conical form and remove any wayward or damaged growth.

Deadheading: Not applicable, as this is a conifer and does not flower.

Fertilising: Apply a slow-release, balanced fertiliser in early spring to support steady growth and vibrant foliage. Avoid overfeeding, especially in container-grown specimens.

Watering: Water regularly during the first year to establish roots. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional watering during extended dry spells, particularly in pots.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free, though spider mites may occasionally appear in dry conditions. Increase humidity or use insecticidal soap if needed.

Disease Management: Rarely affected by disease. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot, especially in containers. Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal issues.
