Plumbago Royal Cape

Plumbago auriculata Royal Cape is a wonderful bushy shrub that will smother itself in balls of sky blue flowers from early summer till late autumn. Native to Central America, this plant adds a touch of tropical beauty to any garden, creating a striking display with its bunches of true powder blue flowers that can be so abundant that the foliage is hidden.

Plumbago Royal Cape is versatile and can be grown in pots, against a trellis, as a hedge, or as a loose shrub. It makes an excellent background shrub or climber for gardens or containers. Its ability to cascade from embankments or over retaining walls makes it ideal for mass planting in low-maintenance areas.

This plant performs best in a sunny, dry position with well-drained soil. It loves full sun, and light summer pruning encourages new growth and prolonged flowering. Protect it from heavy frost and water well during dry periods. After flowering, trim the plant to encourage repeat blooms and feed it annually with a general garden fertiliser. Plumbago can easily be trained to climb or pruned to maintain a shrub-like form.
