Arabis Pink
Notify MeArabis Pink is a charming, low-growing perennial known for its bright pink flowers that appear in clusters from early to mid-spring. Its compact, spreading form and evergreen foliage make it an excellent choice for adding early-season colour and texture to rockeries, borders, or container displays. The flowers are lightly fragrant and attractive to pollinators.
A lovely addition to cottage gardens, alpine plantings, and spring borders. Complements informal, Mediterranean, or naturalistic garden styles.
Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Drought-tolerant once established and best with light to moderate moisture. Space plants 20–30 cm apart to create a carpet-like effect.
Mature size: Grows 10–15 cm tall and spreads to around 30 cm wide.
Trimming: Trim back after flowering in late spring to maintain a tidy, compact shape and encourage fresh new growth. Light pruning throughout the season can also help keep the plant dense and attractive.
Deadheading: Regularly deadhead spent flowers to prolong the flowering period and reduce self-seeding.
Fertilising: Apply a light dose of balanced fertiliser in early spring. Arabis thrives in poor to moderately fertile soil, so avoid overfeeding, which can lead to lush growth with fewer flowers.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, Arabis ‘Pink’ is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional watering in long dry spells. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root issues.
Pest Control: Typically low-maintenance, but watch for aphids. Treat with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil if necessary.
Disease Management: Root rot may occur in poorly drained soil. Ensure good drainage and avoid overwatering. Improve airflow around plants by spacing appropriately and trimming back thick growth if needed.
