Aloe Black Gem

Aloe Black Gem is a compact and striking succulent known for its deep green to dark purple, almost black, fleshy leaves that form a neat, clumping rosette. During summer, it produces tall flower spikes with tubular orange-red flowers that attract pollinators such as bees and birds. This hardy, low-maintenance plant adds dramatic colour and texture to gardens or container displays.

Perfect for rock gardens, succulent collections, or modern and Mediterranean landscapes. Thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-draining soil. Allow the soil to dry out between watering to prevent overwatering. Plant with 15–20 cm spacing in groupings or as a standalone feature in pots.

Reaches a mature height of 15–20 cm and spreads to about 20–30 cm, forming a compact, eye-catching display ideal for small spaces or accent planting.

Trimming: Remove dead, damaged, or wilted leaves with a clean, sharp knife or scissors. Trim flower stalks after flowering to redirect energy to the plant.

Fertilising: Apply a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser in spring and summer, once a month, to encourage healthy growth. Avoid fertilising in autumn and winter.

Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, ensuring the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot. Reduce watering during cooler months.

Pest Control: Check for pests such as mealybugs or aphids on leaves and in crevices. Wipe off pests with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol or use insecticidal soap.

Disease Management: Overwatering can cause root rot. Look for signs like soft, mushy leaves or a foul odour. Remove affected roots and repot in fresh, well-draining soil.
